Introduction

I’ve been using ChatGPT for all kinds of research and brainstorming over the past year.

But it didn’t occur to me to use it for help with healthcare appointments.

Until last week.

When I began having significant pain in my upper back last Tuesday from what seemed to be a pulled muscle, I wondered if ChatGPT could help me prepare for an appointment with a primary care provider.

So I began a chat thread with ChatGPT4 — yes, the $20/month version — and continued it over the next few days for a total of 8 back-and-forth chat sessions. I’m including all 8 sessions here.

There were several learnings I picked up along the way, and I’ll detail them at the end of this article in a “Takeaways/Best Practices” section.

Overall, I was pleased — really pleased — with the guidance I got from ChatGPT. It ramped me up to speed faster, more easily, and far better than if I had just “gone googling.”
